Henry Stevens Haines Books, 1856; 1871-1872

Henry Stevens Haines was a railroad engineer and executive. The collection contains records of Haines, including an operating log, 1856, for railroad runs from Wilmington, N.C., through the South Carolina low country, and between Montgomery, Ala., and West Point, Ga. The log includes records of mechanical and track troubles, personnel, times of arrival and departure, and other matters. It also contains notes on philosophy and German vocabulary by D. W. Haines, possibly a brother. The later volume contains private reports, 1871-1872, from Haines to John Screven, president and receiver, concerning the financial and operating position of the Atlantic & Gulf Railroad and the Brunswick & Albany Railroad.
